New School Misses Mark on Accessibility

The new Georgian Bay Community School (GBCS) that is scheduled to open in September falls short of being fully accessible to people with disabilities, according to Mary Solomon in a Letter to the Editor, The Meaford Independent, June 30, 2021.

In today’s world where concerted effort is being made to remove barriers for people with disabilities, Mary and her husband Geoff Solomon are struggling to understand why the new school is not fully accessible.


Coordinating Accessibility Accommodations in Healthcare

Currently, there are still no AODA healthcare standards. However, an AODA standards development committee drafted recommendations of guidelines that AODA healthcare standards should include. These guidelines include coordinating accessibility accommodations in healthcare.

The committee’s mandate from the Ontario government requires recommendations focused on the hospital setting. However, patients and healthcare workers with disabilities also face barriers in other parts of the healthcare system, including:

  • Doctors’ offices
  • Walk-in clinics

Involving People with Disabilities in Healthcare Service Planning
