June 1, 2018 Toronto: Blind lawyer, law professor and disability rights advocate David Lepofsky went to vote at his riding’s returning office this afternoon, using what Elections Ontario offers as an accessible voting machine. He experienced three distinct barriers. Worst among these, after he used the machine to mark his ballot, his ballot evidently came out of the voting machine and fell down to the floor, revealing his choice to an Elections Ontario official who was there to assist him in using that technology.

After an autoimmune disease damaged Christina Strong’s vocal chords and put her in a wheelchair, she said the obstacles kept coming after she left the hospital.

Looking forward to lunch at a restaurant, she said she felt completely ignored by servers, who directed all their conversation to her mother.

Frustrated By a Lack of Co-Operation From City Council, the Committee Accepts Offer to Talk Things Through

The chair of London’s accessibility advisory committee says she’s looking forward to the start of a new dialogue with city council after the committee members were persuaded to drop their threat to resign en masse Tuesday night.

The threat was made at the end of a presentation to the Community and Protective Services Committee, during which several members of the advisory committee expressed their frustration with city council’s failure to adopt their recommendations.
