We are kicking off 2019 by making public the AODA Alliance’s finalized brief that calls for significant reforms to the Ontario Government’s implementation and enforcement of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA). We have just submitted this finalized brief to the hon. David Onley, whom the Ontario Government appointed last February to conduct a mandatory Independent Review of the AODA’s implementation and enforcement.

June 20, 2018 Toronto: In a major step forward in the national grassroots campaign to make Canada become accessible to four million people with disabilities in this country, the Trudeau Government just introduced in Parliament for First Reading its promised new Canadian accessibility law, called “An Act to Ensure a Barrier-Free Canada”. This law was promised in the 2015 federal election at the request of Canadians with disabilities, to ensure that Canada becomes fully accessible to four million people with a physical, sensory, mental, intellectual, learning, communication or other disabilities.

SUMMARY

On March 20, 2018, the Ontario Government invited public comment, which it would give to the Employment Standards Development Committee. That Committee is conducting a review of the 2011 Employment Accessibility Standard, which the Government enacted under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act. It aims at removing and preventing workplace barriers that impede employees and job-seekers with disabilities from getting and keeping a job.
