Breaking Down Barriers at the Heritage Railway and Carousel Company

The North Bay Heritage Railway and Carousel Company now has a wheelchair accessible train coach.

It was officially launched Sunday, much to the delight of residents who have been waiting years to ride the miniature train at the North Bay waterfront, but were unable to because of their wheelchair.

The train has been modified to accommodate two wheelchairs at a time.

Mayor Doug Craig has asked two opposing city advisory committees and residents of Blair Road to sit down and sort out a squabble over planned sidewalk improvements and the impact on this narrow strip of boulevard.

A narrow swath of grass is at the centre of debate concerning the reconstruction of Blair Road.

The University of Toronto Scarborough has broken ground on a new path that will wind through trees and improve access to the wilderness and trails of the Highland Creek Valley.

“I’m so pleased that we are going to open a much more accessible, beautiful and enjoyable path to our remarkable Highland Creek Valley and connect the upstairs campus into the wilderness below for faculty, staff and students and members of the public,” said Bruce Kidd, vice-president and principal of U of T Scarborough, at last week’s groundbreaking ceremony.
